'...Rodes exhibits an excellent modern technique which is unfailingly at the service of a refined musicality and very considerable sensibility, his natural good taste abounding at all times...His artistry was most warmly ackonowledged by the appreciative audience whose response elicited from the player encores by Barrrios and Granados, further evidence of the very considerable poetry this young man has to offer...'

' ...Ignacio Rodes demonstrated in his recital a remarkably intense and distinguished musicality, accompanied throughout by a clean and delicate sound...'

Alte Oper, Frankfurt

'...In the Fantasia Elegiaca by F. Sor, the first work in a most attractive and demanding programme, Rodes' playing captivated the audience by producing a very transparent atmosphere imbued with great creative force, an uncompromisingly classical and profound approach and a full, rounded and clear sound... Rodes is one of the few Spaniards who undestands the music of J. S. Bach and can play it analytically and very intensely, while at the same time maintaining an unfailing musicality. In the Sonata in C Major BMW 1005 we were treated to a most powerful performance, lavish in its attention to detail and clarity... In the second half of the programme, Rodes surprised the public with Four Spanish Pieces by J. Turina, offering and exquisite and authentic interpretation and a choice of timbre that imparted an impressionistic flavour and an attractive additional charm to these pieces... Rodes concluded his recital with the Sonata Op. 47 by A. Ginastera. Once again, this guitarist displayed the qualities already mentioned, retaining control of the sound even in the most impetuous passages. As in the rest of the programme, he brought to this difficult work an impeccable technique. The audience of over 800 people responded with enthusiasm. Rodes showed his appreciation by treating us to three encores. A truly impressive debut!...'

Stuttgart International Festival
